Do Certain Groups of Children Profit from a Grade Retention?
Niklason, Lucille B.
Psychology in the Schools, v24 n4 p339-45 Oct 1987
Examined practice of grade retention and its effects in two Utah school districts in 102 students recommended for retention. Showed retention did not benefit the children academically, personally, or socially. Reanalysis showed retention did not benefit these subgroups of children: children receiving supplementary instruction, children of average or above intelligence, and children in kindergarten or first grade.
