Peer reviewedWildman, Robert W., II; Wildman, Robert W. – Psychology in the Schools, 1975
Reports of the use of behavior modification in the classroom are reviewed, with special attention given to whether or not generalization of the effects of the behavior modification programs was obtained. Current literature suggests that a teacher's expectancies for a pupil may in part determine the pupil's subsequent behavior. This review asks how such expectancies affect the teacher's own behavior, with the goal of determining what teacher behaviors mediate the observed effect on the pupil. A model of this process is proposed. (Author)

Peer reviewedSchmidt, W. Ernie; Tyler, Vernon O., Jr. – Psychology in the Schools, 1975
This research indicates that a peer group can decrease reinforcement of a disruptive behavior and thereby decelerate it in a singled-out child (Pinpointing Effect) or a behavior emitted by any child in class (Diffusion Effect) with equal effectiveness. (Author)

In three tasks out of five the high others-concept children showed a higher frequency and greater proportion of task-related and friendly…

TPA is conceptualized in terms of channels, processes, and levels. This study investigates the relationship between the two levels: the representational level and the automatic level. It concludes they are highly related in auditory-vocal channel but not in visual motor channel. (Author/HMV)

Peer reviewedHess, Richard J.; Hahn, Roland T. – Psychology in the Schools, 1974
Investigates the ability of the HSRS to identify prekindergarten or prefirst grade children who will be academically unsuccessful. Results, based on a five-year followup study, indicate the HSRS accurately predicted school failure 81 percent of the time. (Author/HMV)

In efforts to clarify ambiguity in the scoring directions for part of the WISC, 100 children were given the test which was scored by two sets of criteria. Four sets of data were analyzed, with significant discrepancies apparent only between Verbal-Performance correlations secured by Wechsler in his standardization of the WISC and those secured in…

Peer reviewedScott, Ralph – Psychology in the Schools, 1974
Assesses Vertical Home Start, a program which provided children with readiness enrichment over a period of three years while the children were from two to five years of age. Results indicate that there is little durability to short-term verbal gains. However, longitudinal assessment is advised since some scores do vacillate. (HMV)
