Scroggins, Charles W.
ProQuest LLC, D.M. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
This study explores the lived experiences of project leaders adopting and using Web-2.0 social networking collaboration applications for their project leadership activities. The experiences of 20 project leaders in a Fortune 500 aerospace and defense enterprise in the northeastern United States of America were explored using a qualitative phenomenological method and research design. Five themes evolved from the data analysis of the research study. The emergent themes were (a) project leaders reject e-mail as a sufficient collaboration tool for project leadership, (b) project leaders recognize the benefits of Web-2.0 based social networking for project leadership activities and are eager to adopt Web-2.0 collaborative social networking applications, (c) project leaders experience different levels of satisfaction using Web-2.0 depending on leadership activities performed, (d) project leaders experience significant issues with legal and organizational policy compliance when using Web-2.0 based social networking applications, and (e) project leaders do not experience significant training issues when adopting Web-2.0 social networking applications. The study results provided recommendations for leadership and management based on the results and discoveries of the study.
