Exploring Generational Identity in the Professional Lives of African-American Women: A Participatory Action Research Study
Shaw, Charles D.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University, San Francisco Bay
This study examines the professional lives of African-American women in relation to their affiliations to a generation. Relationships between race, gender, generation, and class are explored. This study builds on the work of generational theorists and feminist scholars, and seeks to understand the experiences of African-American women in an individualized way. The study consists of in-depth interviews, workshop learning, and observations. It also constructs meaning as a contribution to further understanding of generational differences. Diversity practitioners, organizational development professionals, and educators from all disciplines can potentially benefit from the perspective of this research.
