The Effectiveness of Family Workshops in a Middle School Setting: Respect and Caring Make the Difference.
Goodman, Joan F.; And Others
Phi Delta Kappan, v76 n9 p694-700 May 1995
At an urban, predominantly African American middle school, the authors addressed parents' concerns (adolescent development, self-esteem, family communication, behavior management, peer pressure, sexuality, and substance abuse) through a series of six Saturday workshops. Parents were randomly assigned to one of three models: directive, nondirective, or cooperative problem solving. Participants valued the workshops. (11 endnotes) (MLH)
