The Arts and Humanities in American Education.
Renyi, Judith
Phi Delta Kappan, v75 n6 p438-40,442-45 Feb 1994
A recent Rockefeller Foundation report concluded that a lively life in the humanities depended on vigorous engagement with reading, writing, and cultures. Collaboratives for Humanities and Arts Teaching (CHART), created to foster humanistic education, targets classrooms of average students from impoverished urban and rural districts. Such classrooms too often exhibit a mind-numbing, pragmatic pedagogy of poverty. Progress is charted. (MLH)
