Competitive Grading Sabotages Good Teaching.
Krumboltz, John D.; Yeh, Christine J.
Phi Delta Kappan, v78 n4 p324-26 Dec 1996
Competitive grading stresses judging over learning. Assigning competitive grades adversely affects teachers by turning them into students' opponents, justifying inadequate teaching methods, trivializing course content, encouraging evaluation methods that misdirect and inhibit student learning, and rewarding teachers for punishing students. High schools should refuse to sort students for college admission. (MLH)
