Cultural Ways of Working and Believing in School: Preserving the Way Things Are.
Parish, Ralph; Aquila, Frank
Phi Delta Kappan, v78 n4 p298-305 Dec 1996
Transformational change means changing teachers' and principals' conceptions of schools and classrooms. This is cultural work that counteracts a 200-year-old cultural system of economic and social privilege. Educators must discover how to create transformational, culture-building leaders in schools. Schools should regard ethnicity, cultural difference, and social class as sources of enrichment, not student sorting mechanisms. (MLH)
