A Qualitative Study of the Mentoring Relationships of Professional School Counselors
Desmond, Kimberly J.
Perspectives in Peer Programs, v22 n1 p2-14 Spr 2009
The mentoring experiences of two pairs of participants, mentor and mentee, were asked to describe their mentoring relationship. The mentors were more experienced school counselors with more than five years of school counseling experience. The mentees were school counselors in their second year, who do not have teaching experience and were enrolled in a statewide mandated mentoring program. Five themes emerged: challenges of mentoring, collegial relationship, definition of mentoring, modeling for the mentee, and supporting the mentee. (Contains 1 figure and 1 table.)
