Differences were investigated in perception of Black and White school psychologists regarding their professional role(s). Both gave a high rating to testing and assessment; Whites were less concerned than Blacks with reaching school objectives and identifying with other professionals on the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) team. Discusses the problem of improper test development and usage in the following areas: (1) policy making; (2) norms development; and (3) use of results for diagnosis and classification.
