Meeting the Needs of All Students: Making Ability Grouping Work.
Segro, Gene
NASSP Bulletin, v79 n568 p18-26 Feb 1995
Ability grouping's positive aspects (improved self-concept, achievement, and individualization) affect students in higher ability groups, whereas its negative aspects (impaired student mobility, instructional quality, self-concept, and achievement) affect students in lower ability groups. To make ability grouping work for all students requires flexible student grouping, flexible teaching assignments, elimination of negative stereotyping, universally high standards, individualized instruction, and professional development.
