Think Big: Leadership Projects for AMS and Montessori Educators
Chattin-McNichols, John
Montessori Life: A Publication of the American Montessori Society, v26 n3 p32-35 Fall 2014
The American Montessori Society's (AMS) 2014 Living Legacy recipient, John Chattin-McNichols, delivered the keynote address at the Annual Conference in Dallas, TX, on March 27, 2014, In his speech, he described three overall highlights of AMS: (1) AMS is now a world-leading organization; (2) It must become a learning organization; and (3) Montessorian's must never be satisfied to do the same old thing. He also discussed seven ideas that Montessorian's and AMS could undertake going forward: (1) Working against Montessori dilution; (2) Research; (3) Disseminating research findings; (4) The "Montessori Year"; (5) Online parent education; (6) Triple threat; and (7) Spiritual preparation. Chattin-McNichols, wrapped up his address by noting all Montessorian's must lead the movement--as Dr. Montessori called her method one of scientific pedagogy. Montessorian's must continually revisit Dr. Montessori's writings; as there is always something new to be discovered there, and finally, there must also be a moving forward boldly.
