A Survey on the Use of Writing-to-Learn in Mathematics Classes.
Silver, Jennifer Williams
Mathematics Teacher, v92 n5 p388-89 May 1999
Reports the results of a survey of mathematicians about their teaching background, pedagogical philosophy, and degree to which they use discovery methods and expressive writing assignments, including journal writing, creating mathematical word problems, and writing term papers. Concludes that, although the majority favor a combination of discovery and reception learning methods, they are in equal agreement that expository teaching of mathematics will remain the norm. (ASK)
