Encouraging GED Students Write Now!: The Studio as Bridge
Cotugno, Marianne
Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal, v3 n3 p171-174 Fall 2009
While plans for adult education programs are forming on a state level, Miami University Middletown (MUM) is developing a new program, Write Now! This program has three goals: (1) to encourage students to complete GEDs (General Educational Development); (2) to encourage those who have earned GEDs to consider postsecondary education; and (3) to provide participants with college-level writing experience. The author discusses the Write Now! program and how the program gives current GED students and recent GED recipients an opportunity to participate in a half-day workshop and then to enter an essay contest.
