Profiles of Internet Use among ALBE Instructors
Berger, Jim I.
Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal, v4 n3 p151-160 Fall 2010
This study sought to create profiles of adult literacy and basic education (ALBE) instructors and their use of the Internet in their classrooms. I used Rogers' diffusion of innovations framework and results of a previous study to develop a 56-item survey. Twelve hundred surveys were distributed in 24 states; 219 were returned for a response rate of 18.3%. Results brought to light two instructor profiles: instructors in Cluster I did not have reasons for using the Internet, did not use it, did not have positive results, and found many barriers to using it; those in Cluster II had reasons for using the Internet, used it, had positive results, and found few barriers.
