Spelling Lessons: A Step toward Recuperation from Educational Distress
Friesen, Helen Lepp
Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal, v5 n2 p103-106 Sum 2011
Although this author had experience teaching postsecondary academic writing, she had never done one-on-one tutoring. Therefore, One-on-One Literacy trained her as a novice volunteer tutor to work with adults who wished to expand their reading and writing skills. The tutor training included developing an individualized program suited to the learner's specific needs and goals. After completing the tutor training sessions, the author ventured out to meet with an eager learner, Marcy, whose primary goal was to improve her spelling proficiency. This article highlights the strategies that worked well and those that did not.
