An attempt to apply a theoretical model of behavior to an analysis of teaching styles (nomothetic, idiographic, and transactional) of adult basic education instuctors concludes that the Gentzels-Thelen model provides an adequate tool; that illiterate adult students appreciate having their interests acknowledged, yet expect that teachers will be more program-oriented than student-oriented.
