Living Dialogues in One Neighborhood: Moving toward Understanding across Discourses and Practices of Literacy and Schooling.
Rogers, Theresa; Tyson, Cynthia; Marshall, Elizabeth
Journal of Literacy Research, v32 n1 p1-24 Mar 2000
Examines the "living dialogues," or the complex interplay between discourses, among three children, their families, and teachers to recontextualize the often polarized debates about literacy instruction. Argues the creation of more inclusive school literacy practices requires a consideration of how discourses function within and across homes, communities, and schools. Suggests a critical discourse perspective resituates debates around literacy instruction. (RS)
