Teaching Responsibility through Example
Notar, Toni A.
Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal, v2 n3 p179-181 Fall 2008
As Literacy Outreach Coordinator for Opportunity to Read (OTR), the Watsonville (CA) Public Library literacy program, this author has recognized the concept of responsibility through example. Adult learners incorporate concepts easily when these concepts are specifically demonstrated for them by someone similar to them. Sounds simple, but putting this into practice has proven to be challenging at best. This article discusses four activities that the author believes has helped OTR put the concept of teaching responsibility through example to work. (Contains 1 footnote.)
