Effectiveness of L2 Instruction: A Research Synthesis and Quantitative Meta-Analysis.
Norris, John M.; Ortega, Lourdes
Language Learning, v50 n3 p417-528 Sep 2000
Summarized findings from experimental and quasi-experimental investigations into the effectiveness of second language instruction. Comparisons of average effect sizes from sample studies indicated focused second language instruction results in large target-oriented gains, explicit types of instruction are more effective than implicit types, and focus on form and focus on forms interventions result in equivalent and large effects.
