Bringing Language to Life: Science Exploration and Inquiry in the Early Language Classroom
Seewald, Amanda
Learning Languages, v12 n2 p30-33 Spr 2007
Preschool and early elementary science provides engaging opportunities for integrated content-based language learning. This instruction uses the concepts of other content areas as a springboard for language acquisition and self-expression. It is through the active interpretation of content standards by foreign language teachers that the ideas and objectives of a curriculum come to life in the classroom. Content-based teaching that places value on learning styles and language acquisition motivates learners and reinforces their skills. In this article, the author provides interactive ideas for science learning in the early elementary language setting aimed at building student capabilities in both the content and target language.
