Six Teaching Tips from ACTFL's Teacher of the Year
Glass, Janet
Learning Languages, v13 n2 p4-5 Spr 2008
In this article, the author presents teaching tips for elementary second or foreign language teachers. These include (1) using index cards for beginning level vocabulary practice; (2) chanting the words or phrases to help students remember; (3) taking the students' work out the door and spread the language to a wider audience; (4) pruning an activity or teaching lesson that students absolutely love; (5) filming the students in any activity they do in order to motivate and assess them; and (6) visiting websites when stuck for an idea in planning a lesson or an activity. The author suggests two sites that offer resources and ideas that are targeted to the elementary level: (a) the Nandu Listserve, a teacher exchange site that can be accessed through www.cal.org/earlylang/, and (b) www.anacleta.com.
