Students' Perceptions of Female Professors

This paper examines student attitudes towards academic women. University students (N=181) evaluated professors in terms of 21 semantic differential scales and an occupational prestige ranking instrument. Female professors were perceived as more competent than male instructors in both task and socio-emotional competence. Males were not assigned a significantly higher prestige score. (Author)
