Wiggins, J. D.; Weslander, Darrell – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1977
Expressed vocational choices were more predictive of employment status four years after high school graduation for males than were scores on either the Vocational Preference Inventory or the Kuder Preference Record--Vocational. Predictions for males were more accurate than for females on all measures. (Author)

The study assessed Holland's theoretical signs of consistency and differentiation as measures of academic aptitude and achievement. Findings show significant differences on SAT scores for the sign of differentiation, none for GPA over a four year college period, and none on SAT or GPA for the sign of consistency. (Author)

This paper examines the relationship between level of need for achievement (n-Ach) and degree of achievement opportunity on the job and type of leisure time activities. Findings indicate people who are unable to satisfy their achievement needs on the job are likely to do so in their leisure time activities. (Author)

Relationships between cosmopolitan--local orientation and measures of job performance were examined for 150 technical employees in three architectural firms. Cosmopolitan orientation was positively related to supervisor ratings of following prescribed work hours and supervisor and co-worker ratings of impressing others. (Author)

The demographic and sociopsychological profile of 102 high school and 754 college Army ROTC cadets was compared and contrasted against that of their non-ROTC classmates. Findings point to the possible existence of a "military personality" that is evident at early career development stages. (Author)

Employee reactions to the opportunity to participate in a job enrichment program were examined in relation to higher-order need satisfaction levels. It was found that employees whose higher-order needs were less satisfied were more likely to volunteer for job enrichment. (Author)

The relationships between the 37 pairs of same-named Occupational scales for men and women on the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory were studied for 1044 female and 1134 male college freshmen. Contrary to prior expectations, the use of the cross-sex scales reinforces sexual stereotypes. (Author)

This paper, a by-product of an extension of DOT to the Australian Census Classification of Occupations, attempts to validate worker function hierarchies in terms of worker traits. It shows that variation in worker traits across 21, 741 occupations listed in DOT is closely reflected in the 197 worker function profiles. (Author)

Self-esteem and job complexity were investigated as moderators of self, supervisor, and peer ratings of performance and satisfaction with work, supervisors, and peers testing balance and activation theories. Examined sex differences in occupational attitudes in two samples of poor minority group members. Differences regularly isolated in studies of whites were not evident. In both samples, rankings of preferences for work-related outcomes of males and females were remarkably similar. (Author)

A reconceptualization of the choice model developed by Restle is proposed which involves a reformulation of the choice situation, consideration of absolute constraints, and a distinction between positively and negatively valued aspects of alternatives. The hypothesis that the VPI and WVI are measuring the same domain based on theoretical similarities was tested using 195 male freshperson students. The data were analyzed by correlational technique including discriminant analysis. The results allow for the interpretation that the VPI and WVI are in fact measuring two distinctive domains.
