Peer reviewedLamb, Richard R.; Prediger, Dale J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1979
Describes two studies comparing the criterion-related validity of sex-balanced ("unisex") interest inventory scales. Results indicate that psychometrically sound interest inventories can be constructed with sex-balanced items, and counselors may use inventories which provide sex-balanced score reports without sacrificing validity. (Author)

Peer reviewedPrediger, Dale J.; Noeth, Richard J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1979
Intervention procedures, consisting of a brief report of vocational interest scores and small-group sessions on vocational planning, were designed to encourage girls to consider the full range of occupations, unrestricted by sex-role stereotypes. Peer reviewedPrediger, Dale J.; Hanson, Gary R. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
A basic assumption underlying Holland's theory of careers is that men and women in the same occupation have the same personality pattern. Contrary to expectations, this research shows there are substantial and systematic differences in the Holland raw codes of males and females pursuing the same occupations, especially nontraditional occupations.…

Peer reviewedPrediger, Dale J.; Hanson, Gary R. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
The widely divergent career options suggested to men and women by the Self-Directed Search (SDS) raw scores are noted and misunderstandings concerning the implications of Holland's assessment procedures for his theory are discussed. Peer reviewedPrediger, Dale J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1980
Holland types characterizing 34 occupational groups are reported for Self-Directed Search (SDS) standard scores. Results are compared with the Holland types obtained raw scores. Studies cited and reported indicated that "g" is insufficient as descriptor of work-relevant abilities.…

Peer reviewedPrediger, Dale J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Provides empirical evidence regarding the nature of the interest dimensions underlying Holland's hexagon of vocational interests. Two studies are reported. Study one results provide substantial support for the theory-based dimensions. Study two results suggest that interest inventories "work" primarily because they tap activity preferences which…
