Meir, Elchanan I.; Melamed, Samuel – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2005
The present research examined the relationship between within-occupational congruence and satisfaction, and attempted to integrate hypotheses and findings of prior studies with the conceptual implications of occupational specialty congruence. Correspondence between vocational interests within occupations and specialty choice has shown higher…

Peer reviewedSpokane, Arnold R.; Meir, Elchanan I.; Catalano, Michele – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2000
Examination of 66 congruence studies, including benchmarking studies with improved methodology, showed that congruence is a sufficient though not a necessary condition for job satisfaction. A paradigmatic shift is needed with diverse research designs and methods, emphasizing experiment and drawing on person-environment psychology. (Contains 142…

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; Barak, Azy – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
A Vocational interests inventory-- "Ramak" --based on Roe's (1956) classification of occupations was constructed. It consisted of 72 names of occupations. Equivalent-test reliability of 0.76 was achieved. The inventory was validated on working samples and by the structure of intercorrelations. (Author)

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; Hadadi, Amalia – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
One hundred eleven subjects were asked to indicate how much relationship with people is involved in 48 occupational titles. The results support Roe's classification of occupations: differences within occupational fields were found to be smaller than differences between occupational fields (F=8.53, p less than .01). Peer reviewedBarak, Azy; Meir, Elchanan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
The purpose of this study was to test the predictive validity of the Ramak--a vocational interest inventory based on Roe's (1956) classification of occupations. In this follow-up, 81 percent of the original sample, tested 7 years earlier, was located. The effectiveness of the Ramak in vocational counseling is evaluated. (Author)

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; Shiran, Dalia – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1979
The occupational cylinder demonstrates the hierarchical arrangement of the occupational levels and the circular configuration of occupational fields. In this study, contribution of the cylinder to the vocational maturity of 11th and 12th graders was investigated. The study implies that an understanding of the occupational structure enhances…

Peer reviewedFeldman, Shoshana; Meir, Elchanan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
A Hebrew interest inventory for females in Israel, based on Holland's vocational classification, was examined on 322 female pupils and 167 working females. Results showed subjects occupied in a field had highest interest scores in that field and the highest interest score was the score of those engaged in that field. (Author)

Peer reviewedPeiser, Carlos; Meir, Elchanan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1978
The Ramak Interest Inventory, together with an occupational choice satisfaction (OCS) inventory, was administered to 158 males and 202 females who had responded to the Ramak seven years before. Results of the study show congruence correlated positively with males' and females' OCS. (Author)

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1975
The Ramak and Courses interest inventories based on Roe's (1956) occupational classification were modified for use with subjects who answer negatively to most items in the traditional forms. Negative respondents give more positive responses on the modified forms than on the traditional ones. (Author)

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; Ben-Yehuda, Amalia – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
Israeli ninth-grade students (N=217) answered two interest inventories, one based on Holland's classification and one on Roe's classification. By means of a Smallest Space Analysis (SSA-I), a two-dimensional configuration was found. The findings indicate the possibility of incorporating results based on either classification. Some practical…

Peer reviewedMeir, Elchanan I.; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1986
Holland's hypothesis that there is a positive relationship between personality-environment congruence and satisfaction was examined using group importance as a mediator. Correlations between these measures of importance and congruence-satisfaction correlations were .68 and .77, respectively. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings…

Peer reviewedGati, Itamar; Meir, Elchanan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Tested the predictive validity of Holland's constructs of congruence and consistency defined according to the hierarchical model for the structure of interests. A follow-up study of adults tested as high school seniors showed the hierarchical and circular models are of similar efficiency in predicting occupational choice satisfaction. (Author/JAC)
