Seeing It Their Way: What Children's Definitions of Reading Tell Us about Improving Teacher Education.
Bondy, Elizabeth
Journal of Teacher Education, v41 n5 p33-45 Nov-Dec 1990
Describes a four-month investigation of first grade students' definitions of reading. Analysis of observations, interviews, and documents revealed that students in low- and high-reading groups constructed different understandings about reading. Suggestions for teacher educators include helping students develop "kid-watching" skills and helping teachers identify their assumptions about teaching and learning. (Author/SM)
