Research is often seen only as a method of encouraging preservice teachers to engage in certain behaviors. This article proposes that research can be used to increase teacher options, provide understanding of the school as a workplace, provide a technical area of teaching, promote questioning and reflection, and provide consumer protection. Cooperating teachers were observed to find out what motivated them to serve as essentially uncompensated volunteers. This study found that, aside from financial rewards, incentives included status recognition and input and control in the teacher education process. Results are presented. (DF)

This study examined the patterns of perceived management and leadership roles of academic deans as held by 55 departmental chairpersons at a major research institition. Four models of governance (organized anarchy, bureaucratic, collegial, and political) were presented for consideration. Results are discussed. (MT)

A questionnaire consisting of 12 items was developed to elicit data on experience, preparation, and demographics of Deans of Education. It was sent to deans from a random sample of 100 institutions drawn from those belonging to the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Results are presented and discussed. (MT)

This study sought to determine how Deans of Education are evaluated by Vice Presidents or Vice Chancellors of Academic Affairs. A questionnaire responded to by 66 vice presidents asked about criteria used in evaluating deans and the importance of the criteria. The findings and their implications are considered. (MT)
