Spanish Teachers' Epistemological and Scientific Conceptions: Implications for Teacher Education.
Ariza, Rafael Porlan; del Pozo, Rosa Martin
European Journal of Teacher Education, v25 n2-3 p151-69 2002
Examines three studies on Spanish teachers' epistemological and scientific conceptions. Results highlight a majority tendency toward an absolutist view of knowledge and empiricist conceptions of science. The article asserts that this represents an obstacle to constructive, active professional development, noting the need for an epistemological education of teachers that is closely linked to the design and development of school curriculum. Implications for teacher education are included. (Contains references.) (SM)
