The Impossible Role of Teacher Educators in a Changing World.
Ben-Peretz, Miriam
Journal of Teacher Education, v52 n1 p48-56 Jan-Feb 2001
External demands on teacher education, plus teachers' and student teachers' inherent professional needs, create difficult situations for teacher educators. External demands (globalization, professionalization, and teaching for understanding) are analyzed, noting how teachers' needs for certainty and control exacerbate them. Gaps between teachers' professional self-images and demands of their teaching contexts contribute to the complexity of their roles. (SM)
