Cultural Identity and Learning To Teach in a Diverse Community: Findings from a Collective Case Study.
Au, Kathryn H.; Blake, Karen M.
Journal of Teacher Education, v54 n3 p192-205 May-Jun 2003
Examined the influence of cultural identity on the learning of preservice teachers who were either community insiders or outsiders. Case study data indicated that all three participants valued literacy and wrote extensively about the teaching of reading and writing and principles of instruction. They differed in the extent to which they analyzed their instruction and set goals for improving their teaching. Notable differences related to being insiders or outsiders. (1SM)
