Ten Faulty Notions about Teaching and Learning that Hinder the Effectiveness of Special Education.
Heward, William L.
Journal of Special Education, v36 n4 p186-205 Win 2003
This paper first identifies four assumptions that it argues underlie special education and then suggests there are 10 ideas that undermine special education, including: (1) structured curricula impede true learning; (2) teaching discrete skills trivializes education and ignores the whole child; (3) students must be internally motivated to learn; (4) every child learns differently; and (5) a good teacher is a creative teacher.
