Special Education Administrators' Perspectives on Response to Intervention
Wiener, Roberta M.; Soodak, Leslie C.
Journal of Special Education Leadership, v21 n1 p39-45 Mar 2008
A national survey was conducted to provide information on the preparedness and conditions necessary for schools to implement the response to intervention model (RtI). Because of the key role of administrators in determining the success of policy implementation, the present study was designed to assess special education administrators' perspectives on the use of RtI in the identification and education of students with learning disabilities. Specifically, the researchers sought to understand administrators' perspectives on the benefits and challenges to implementation and to use this information to assist in future implementation of RtI at the local level. Special education administrators recognize RtI as a schoolwide initiative involving general education and related service personnel. The results provide special education administrators with suggestions for implementation. (Contains 1 figure and 3 tables.)
