A Third of Our Youth? A Look at the Problem of High School Dropout among Students with Mild Handicaps.
Blackorby, Jose; And Others
Journal of Special Education, v25 n1 p102-13 Spr 1991
This study analyzed demographic characteristics, referral to special education, and high-school history of students with mild disabilities, including 462 dropouts and 291 graduates. Results indicated that many "dropouts" actually returned to school and sometimes graduated, overall dropout rate was alarmingly high, and school interruptions disproportionately affected African-American students and behavior-disordered students.
