Development of Self-Management in an Individual with Mental Retardation: A Qualitative Case Study.
Richardson, Gail M.; And Others
Journal of Special Education, v30 n3 p278-304 Fall 1996
Ethnographic methodology was used to explore the development of self-management skills in an 18-year-old woman with Down Syndrome. Triangulation of data types and the constant comparative method of data analysis were employed. Outcomes suggested the individual's family culture had a large impact on development of self-monitoring and that early and continuing intervention and "expectation of normalcy" were critical. (DB)
