Why Do Effective Smoking Prevention Programs Work? Student Changes in Social Cognitive Theory Constructs.
Langlois, Marietta A.; Hallam, Jeffrey S.; Petosa, Rick
Journal of School Health, v69 n8 p326-31 Oct 1999
Tested the construct validity of an effective psychosocial smoking-prevention curriculum on mediating variables considered responsible for decreasing adolescent smoking initiation, examining Social Cognitive Theory constructs hypothesized as essential for program effectiveness. Results of data from 6th graders in treatment and comparison groups indicated that the program affected two constructs: refusal self-efficacy and total positive refusal expectations and importance.
