Association of Parental Involvement and Social Competence with School Adjustment and Engagement among Sixth Graders.
Simons-Morton, Bruce G.; Crump, Aria Davis
Journal of School Health, v73 n3 p121-26 Mar 2003
Investigated factors associated with school adjustment and engagement. Surveys of 1,267 6th graders at the beginning and end of the school year indicated that parental involvement and social competence were protective against declines in school adjustment and student engagement during middle school. School adjustment was lower for boys than girls and for blacks than whites, and the significant declines over time were greater for boys and blacks. (SM)
