Factors contributing to youthful drug abuse include the declining consensus about values in our society, the generation gap, changes in the family and peer group pressure. As drug dependency deepens, the influence of conditioning and individual psychodynamics is greater than social and group factors. Drug education is ineffectual because socializing and educative functions are confused. (Author)
