Cultural Diversity and Differences in Formal Reasoning Ability.
Lawson, Anton E.; Bealer, Jonathan M.
Journal of Research in Science Teaching, v21 n7 p735-43 Oct 1984
Investigated the development of formal reasoning among students (ages 10-18 years) from predominately White, middle-class communities located in rural, suburban homogeneous, and suburban heterogeneous areas. Results indicate clear differences among communities in formal reasoning ability. Implications for using science instruction to promote formal reasoning ability are also discussed. (Author/JN)
