Support for Students with Disabilities in Community Colleges. UCLA Community College Bibliography
Zarkesh, Maryam
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v28 n5 p469-473 Jun 2004
In discussing services for students with disabilities, it is important to emphasize that this term encompasses a variety of physical and cognitive challenges faced by individuals, including learning disabilities such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mobility impairment, hearing/visual impairment, and mental illness. In the last 20 years, students with disabilities have been attending institutions of higher education, and community colleges in particular, in larger numbers than ever before. Many community colleges have created specific programs to increase the likelihood of success for students with disabilities. The documents covered in this annotated bibliography discuss some of the educational challenges faced by students with disabilities and suggestions on how some of these challenges are being effectively addressed by support services programs.
