The Experiences of Families of Children with Learning Disabilities: Parental Stress, Family Functioning, and Sibling Self-Concept.
Dyson, Lily L.
Journal of Learning Disabilities, v29 n3 p280-86 May 1996
Quantitative and qualitative measures from 19 parents and 19 siblings of children with learning disabilities showed that family functioning and self-concepts of siblings were comparable to those in families of nondisabled children but parents experienced greater stress than did parents of nondisabled children. Families also experienced adaptational difficulties, especially with regard to school. Few problems in sibling relationships were found. (Author/DB)
