Arithmetic Disabilities and ADD Subtypes: Implications for DSM-IV.
Marshall, Richard M.; Schafer, Vickie A.; O'Donnell, Louise; Elliott, Jennifer; Handwerk, Michael L.
Journal of Learning Disabilities, v32 n3 p239-47 May-Jun 1999
This study investigated whether specific academic deficits were associated with attention-deficit disorder subtypes (with or without hyperactivity) with 40 elementary students. Results support the hypothesis that inattention exerts a specific and deleterious effect on the acquisition of arithmetic-computation skills. Implications for ADHD diagnosis and treatment in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (IV) are drawn. (DB)
