Issues in Supervision and Inspection of Teaching: Some Implications for Higher Education.
Ngcongo, R. P.
South African Journal of Higher Education, v10 n1 p183-87 1996
Discusses problems in the understanding and practice of teacher supervision, particularly resistance to evaluation, in South Africa's historically black schools. These include the judgmental nature of conventional evaluation procedures, lack of acknowledgment of teacher concerns and aspirations, lack of supervisor training, and tendency to evaluate rather than supervise teachers. Makes recommendations for improvement in teacher education curriculum. (MSE)
