The Impact of an Institution's Federal Research Grants on the Economy of Its State.

Issues for consideration in estimating local economic benefits generated by attracting research grants to a university are examined: displacement of other state production, salaries and spending patterns, importation of resources from other states, real estate, and personal and other services. Different calculations yield significant differences in estimation of the benefits. (MSE)
