Incidents of five types of student involvement in the negotiation and administration of faculty or nonfaculty union contracts are examined: consultation-observation and end-run, coalition, tripartite, and collective bargaining. Conclusions are that no one appropriate type of student involvement has emerged; thus legislative structuring of student involvement seems a somewhat tenuous exercise. (JT)
