The Number of Blacks Completing Doctoral Degrees Declines for the First Time in Seven Years.
Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, n38 p6-9 Win 2002-2003
In 2001, over 1,600 African Americans earned doctoral degrees, yet for the first time in 7 years, the number of black doctoral awards declined. This paper examines differences in doctoral fields of study, the limited number of awards to African Americans in specialized scientific fields, and the gender gap in black Ph.D. awards. Most doctorates awarded to African Americans are in the field of education. (SM)
