Discussion of the future of the university uses the book, "The University in Ruins" (Bill Readings), to analyze the globalization of the economy and the virtualization of reality. The history and role of the university and the position of the university within a transnational framework are examined. Virtualization is seen as a network of links that produce emergent knowledge.
