Major Field and Person-Environment Fit: Using Holland's Theory To Study Change and Stability of College Students.
Feldman, Kenneth A.; Smart, John C.; Ethington, Corinna A.
Journal of Higher Education, v70 n6 p642-69 Nov-Dec 1999
A study tested John L. Holland's theory that achievement is a function of the congruence between personality type and environment, focusing on college students' achievement within their academic majors. Subjects were 2,309 students enrolled in a wide variety of majors. Results indicate differences in effect size for "congruent" and "incongruent" students, providing strong evidence in favor of the theory. (MSE)
