Preservice Teacher's Use of Service-Learning in Applying Educational Theory to Classroom Practice.
Slavkin, Michael L.
Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement, v7 n3 p81-99 Spr-Sum 2002
Examined whether service-learning projects performed by preservice teachers help them apply educational theory in classroom practice during field experiences and as in-service teachers. Found that: (1) preservice teachers should perform service-learning projects prior to other education courses; (2) participation in service-learning projects improved performance on a measure of learning theories and developmental theories; and (3) earlier student involvement in service-learning resulted in more practical applications of theory.
