To Publish or Not to Publish: Some Faculty Choose Not to Publish while Others See Advantages
Vance, Joanna
Tribal College Journal of American Indian Higher Education, v21 n3 p22-26 Spr 2010
Every year, faculty members publish hundreds of thousands of research papers in academic journals at the nation's colleges and universities. Almost none of these papers are written by tribal college and university (TCU) faculty. Is this good for TCU faculty because without the pressure to "publish or perish," they are able to focus entirely on students? Or should TCU faculty be more involved in research and writing and participate in scholarly communication with their peers at non-tribal colleges and universities? The answer depends upon whom one asks. The author surveys faculty, researchers, and administrators to examine these questions.
